The Columbus Blue Jackets' blue line just took a huge hit.
No. 1 defenceman Zach Werenski was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Anaheim Ducks in the third period after blocking a shot with his ankle.
In visible pain, Werenski crawled to the bench while play continued.
After the game, head coach Dean Evason told reporters he had no update on the Team USA hopeful, but expressed his anger that play was not whistled down as Werenski struggled to the bench.
The 28-year-old has played all 34 games for the Blue Jackets this season, with 13 goals and 38 points in that span. He's second only in defenceman scoring league-wide this season to Cale Makar, who has 40 points.
After notching 82 points in 81 games last season, Werenski was named a finalist for the Norris Trophy, which he ultimately lost to Makar.
